Changing your gear ratio and/or tire size can cause your speedometer to display an inaccurate reading. Replacing the speedometer gear is a simple and in most cases only takes minutes to complete. The chart below references gear ratios and tire size. Select the proper chart based on year range, then select the proper tooth-count gear based on your ratio and tire size configuration.
OEM variances are ±3% from actual speed. Recommended gear charts are based on a manufacturer’s published tire specs and may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Speedometer gears are quick and easy to install. Remember to replace the O-ring when fitting the gear in the transfer case tail housing for a leak free installation.
Accurate speedometer readings are critically important, both on and off road, when traversing back country slopes or complying with highway safety standards.
