<p>Well as many know the Dana 44 axles found in the Jeep JK Rubicon are a new breed of dana 44. These new dana 44's feature a stronger design, with larger pinion diameter, etc. They also come with locking differentials. Now for the bad - many people have experienced problems with their factory lockers failing. Until now upgrading has not been really feasible, as the bearing sizes are odd and thus will not allow fitment of any aftermarket lockers. <p>Nitro Gear &amp; Axle now offers the industry's first&nbsp;4.88 ratio Ring &amp; Pinions to suit Chrysler's 8.25" differential.&nbsp; The 8.25" differential has been used going back to the muscle car days, but is commonly found in Jeep Cherokee XJ &amp; Dodge Dakota.&nbsp; Until recently the durable 8.25" rear was limited to 4.56,&nbsp;which left&nbsp;Jeep XJ owners scrambling for a solution.&nbsp; Now with 4.88 available the 8 1/4" is a true contender, offering more strength than a Dana 35, yet easier to source than the XJ&nbsp;Dana 44.</p>
<p>As with many c-clip style axles, the 4.88 does require a notched crosspin, or some minor clearancing to remove the crosspin.</p>
